At the end of 1989 the history of the dryer was changed for ever. Yes, the big news was that the Okadora Tornado Dryer had arrived on the scene, with its innovative vertical-type steam indirect heating system. Before this ground-breaking design, all dryers and drying apparatus were of the horizontal type. This vertical dryer made it possible to drastically improve drying efficiency, as well as requiring less space for installation. Additionally, employing a four-times higher efficiency of evaporation, the Okadora Tornado Dryer could process raw matter through to decomposition just by boiling for a few seconds by a rapid heating method. This was an epoch-making innovation for the industry and it is known as the ‘Boil & Dry’ process. This original and exclusive concept by Okadora was to give rise to various innovative developments.
The following year, the national broadcaster, NHK, telecast Okadora Tornado Dryer throughout the country, reporting that at a certain location in the business district of Tokyo, the Okadora Tornado Dryer was processing a lot of left-over foods from its in-house restaurant into a powdery, dry product. After seeing the NHK broadcast, so many people rushed into the Okadora offices to enquire about product details and quotations that the Okadora staff were overwhelmed and could hardly cope.
The Okadora Tornado Dryer was hugely powerful in the treatment of all types of waste matter, including raw garbage, various food wastes, waste from marine products and fish, as well as sludge and mud. The Okadora Tornado Dryer is even able to cope with high-moisture wastes such as slurry with a moisture content of 95%. Before this innovation, it was considered impossible for existing dryers to treat such high water content wastes. At this time, in order to cope with the many requests for demonstrations from companies battling against the problems of waste management, an experimental machine was designed and built and installed on a truck so that it could be transported throughout Japan. At these demonstrations many people were greatly surprised at the operation of the dryer, which showed,
one by one, how it could process all kinds of wastes into powdery products. It was a case of ‘seeing is believing’ and, needless to say, there was a dramatic rise in sales throughout the market.

In 1995, two new vertical-type dryers were launched. The first was the Okadora Cyclone Dryer equipped with the Cyclone Fin (modified from the Tornado Fin). The other was the Okadora Cyclone Vacuum Dryer, which is capable of treating wastes in the fastest way possible and still achieve a high quality dried product under lower evaporating and operating temperatures.
In 1996 the company name was changed from Sankyo Design Co.Ltd to Okadora Co.Ltd.
